Professor Ronan Bolton holds a Personal Chair in Sustainable Energy at the University of Edinburgh's School of Social and Political Science. His work examines the interconnected policy, market and regulatory challenges of transforming carbon based energy systems. He has particular research interests in the areas of energy network regulation and system integration, along with the history and development of liberalisation processes in the energy sector. He has published a book on the history of electricity markets in Europe: Making Energy Markets: The Origins of Electricity liberalisation in Europe (PalgraveMacmillan).
